Frequently Asked Questions

How many people can attend a public tour?
The maximum number of people is 16 per tour guide.

How much food is served on these tours?
There are enough food tastings served for most people that lunch afterwards is not needed.

What types of food will we sample on the tour?
We serve foods from ethnic eateries and specialty food shops. Example: French Apricot Tart, Authentic New York Style thin crust pizza, aranccini - an Italian rice ball served fresh and warm, unique cheeses and olives, rustic French breads, Turkish Food - grilled pita, sliced lamb and beef, fresh made felafel and sauces, fresh filled canolli, Food subject to change without notice.

What do I do if I have a dietary restriction (eg, vegetarian, vegan, Diabetic)?
Please let us know when you purchase a ticket what your food restriction is. We will try our best to accommodate your needs.

Are there Kosher options on the tour?
Unfortunately we do not serve kosher food on the tour but we can give you the vegetarian options. There are only two food tastings that have to be replaced.

Are there food options for vegetarians?
Yes, there are only two tastings that have meat in them. The vegetarian options are just as delicious.

Are there food options for diabetics?
There are two dessert tastings that are very difficult to replace with sugar free ones. The bakeries that are on the tour have been there for a very long time and have not mastered anything good that is sugar free. We can give you extra food from the other spots to make up for the two sweets.

Do we get anything to drink?
We supply everyone with a bottle of water at the very beginning of the tour.

Are the tastings served in sit-down restaurants?
We do not sit down in the restaurants. All food tastings are done on the go and are from ethnic eateries and specialty food shops.

Do we just walk around and taste food?
Besides walking around and tasting delicious food, you will also experience life in Greenwich Village. We explore off the beaten path food and cultural establishments while learning about the history, culture, and architecture of the Village.

Are these food-and-wine tours?
The tours that we offer include a wine tasting that you can do at your leisure. We provide you with a coupon that is good at a local New York wine shop. They only sell wine from Long Island, the Finger Lakes, and the Hudson Valley. This shop is a wine shop/tasting bar that allows you to sit at the bar and choose four to five wines. There is no obligation to purchase wine; the tasting is included in the cost of the tour.

How much walking is involved? Will the walk be fast-paced?
We are on our feet for approximately three hours. The pace that we walk is very casual.

Are wheelchairs or strollers allowed?
Unfortunately wheelchairs or strollers are not recommended on the Greenwich Village tour due to the narrow sidewalks and small establishments. Our Chelsea Market/ Meatpacking District tour accommodates wheelchairs and strollers just fine.

What if it rains?
The tours are held rain or shine. In the event of rain we are able to go inside many of the establishments. We are not outdoors for the entire three hours.

May I bring my dog?
We are sorry but pets are not allowed due to the establishments that we visit.

Some people worry they will be surrounded by crowds of tourists...should I be?
Many native New Yorkers take our tours to learn about the neighborhood and the city they live in. We mainly stay off the beaten path and are not consumed with crowds of tourists. Our tours are relatively small, with a maximum of 16 people at any one time.

Can I bring my baby?
If your baby is in a stroller it is going to be difficult maneuvering through the narrow sidewalks going from place to place if there are 16 people in the group.

We took this tour three years ago--has anything changed?
We change the tour slightly every 6 to 8 months. Many parts of the tour will be the same, but we do our best to improve it and add things that definitely enhance it.
